Night Magic

Christmas lights are magical, aren't they? I love the big, glittering displays, and tonight photographed a neighborhood attraction. Instead of more traditional shots I moved the camera with a slow shutter. Out came these fun abstracts! There is something exhilarating about creating effects in camera. Editing is minimal - they either work or they don't. I'm enjoying this!

Roots and Wings

In late September/early October my sister and I spent 2 weeks in England. This was my childhood home, and I had not returned since leaving at the age of 12. Our purpose was to visit old haunts, connecting with the past and discovering how it fit into the present. We journeyed from North to South to West by train, bus, and occasionally by car. Our first stop was in Stockport, staying at the Copper Beech Guest House. This is a historic, charming B and B, hosted by the warm and welcoming Liz Bailey. Stockport is urban and industrial, yet Liz and her husband Mike have turned their back garden into an oasis.

Another Day in Paradise

Autumn is upon us, and I was lucky enough to spend another day with the Brass Band Art Group, at Linda Steele's property in Surrey. The change in season has not diminished the charm of the place, and once again its magic took hold. Our task was to start a project called 'The Four Seasons', where we will interpret nature as it changes throughout the year. Hmmm. Not sure that got done, but I sure had fun!

Water, Water Everywhere

I recently explored the Duffy Lake Road, between Pemberton and Lillooet. I'd heard stories of this wonderful place, and had been there during the winter months, experiencing cold like no other. What a difference a season makes. There was water at every turn, which happens to be one of my favorite things to photograph.

Grace In The Grass

A few weeks ago I was an exhibitor at Arts At Darts (see Adirondacks post, below). This was a delightful event on a perfect evening. A highlight was photographing the exquisite dancers from XBa DanceCo, who drifted like living sculpture through the plants and trees. These photos have been 5 years in the making, and I'm so pleased to have finally taken them.

The Magic Kingdom

The Town That Time Forgot

It's easy to miss the town of Hedley. To some it's little more than a whistle stop on Highway 3, between Princeton and Keremeos. The area has a rich mining history. A short drive into town reveals a treasure trove of charming old buildings and artifacts nestled in the magnificent Similkameen Valley. Here are some gems:

East Columbia Gorge

The area near the Washington/Oregon border is fascinating to explore. It is home to captivating nature trails, stunning waterfalls, stately historic monuments and ghost towns a-plenty. The newest landmarks are the wind farms that lend a surreal air to the magnificent landscape. What fun!
